Is Weight Loss Surgery The Right Option For You?

Are you tired of dieting, bored or can't be bothered with exercise? Could weight loss surgery be the answer to all your problems? In the majority of cases, weight loss surgery is not a suitable option. It all depends on your motives and attitude to weight loss, the current state of your health and weight and your efforts to lose weight in the past.

If you fall into any of the categories below, then weight loss surgery is not going to be right for you: -

1. Looking For A Quick Fix

Surgery should never be considered as a quick fix or easy solution to your weight problems. If you simply don't want to diet, then surgery will not work as it requires you to stick to a strict diet following surgery to get the desired results. You have to be highly motivated to lose weight in order to be a good candidate for surgery.

2. You Are Not Big Enough

If you are not classed as morbidly obese, you are unlikely to be considered for surgery. You would normally have to be at least 100 pounds overweight and have a BMI (body mass index) of 40 or more, to be deemed a suitable candidate for surgery. If you have serious health problems and your weight is putting you in a life-threatening situation, you may be considered without meeting the other criteria.

3. Is It Your Last Resort?

Surgery should only be considered as a last resort when it comes to weight loss. You need to have made every effort possible to lose weight by more natural means. There should be a history of all your previous attempts to lose weight. Have you really tried to adopt a healthy lifestyle or could you have done more to try and change your eating habits? Have you tried to exercise on a regular basis or did you give up on your exercise regime. If you have really given everything you have got with no success, then weight loss surgery may be a viable option.

4. Do You Have The Right Attitude?

If you are viewing surgery as an easy way to lose weight, then think again. It takes real effort and discipline following surgery to ensure it is successful in the long term. If you do not have a positive attitude and a real hunger to make the necessary changes in your life, then surgery is not going to change that. Weight loss surgery is not a magic wand that effortlessly makes your fat vanish. Just like losing weight naturally, surgery has to be approached with a strong positive (and can do) attitude underpinned with a burning desire to do whatever it takes.

Before making any rash decisions you need to think carefully, is weight loss surgery the right option for you? You may be better off making some healthy permanent changes to your eating habits and starting a regular exercise program. Be patient, consistent, sensible and determined, and you will lose weight.
